Commenting on today’s inflation figures issued today by the Office for National Statistics, which showed CPI increase to 2.7 per cent in May from 2.4 per cent in April, Neil Eames, Development Manager for the FSB Wessex Region, said:
“FSB data released this week shows more firms are being hit by rising costs, with utility and fuel costs being the key drivers. The 2.7 per cent rise in CPI will be a concern for businesses that costs will rise further in the coming months. We know that inflation is unlikely to fall in the near future, which will put pressure on business and household finances. It also further increases the divide between living costs and wages which is acting as a drag on the whole economy and hitting retail sector particularly hard.
As a speaker and business success coach, Dale Howarth is as inspiring, entertaining and thought provoking as ever. On Wednesday, June 26th in The Anthony Minghella Theatre, Quay Arts in Newport Dale will present his brand new seminar ‘Business Success in the Age of Less’. The first time that Dale has presented on the Island since his sell-out ‘Turning Customers Into Gold’ seminar, back in 2008 at the then newly opened Lakeside Park Hotel & Spa in Wootton.
In this fast-paced seminar event Dale, together with guest speakers from leading Island businesses will challenge assumptions and provide valuable lessons on how to increase the success of any business, especially in these increasingly uncertain economic times; destroying the myths and conventions that inhibit many companies and individuals from taking full advantage of the real opportunity that exists.
As someone much in demand by businesses, conference organisers and universities, this Island seminar is part of an ongoing series of speaking engagements for Dale, which over the past year alone has included UK events in London, Leeds, Manchester and Southampton in addition to San Diego, Las Vegas and New Orleans in the USA. His recent presentation at the CBI in London was televised for Policy TV and his Las Vegas seminar at the Mandalay Bay Conference Centre drew an audience of over 1,200.
This latest event will start with an hour of networking and light refreshments for delegates and sponsors, followed by the ‘Business Success in the Age of Less’ seminar, during which Dale will present key lessons, including his unique formula for business success, that will help any business to move forward on a path to greater achievement. As Dale puts it “The event is aimed at inspiring delegates to go away and start immediately on their own plans for greater success that will make a real and sustainable difference to their business – and importantly, them.”
Thanks to supporters and sponsors, including BetaPak, Deep Design, Lifeline, Moore Stephens, Wight Energy and The Chamber of Commerce, The Happy Ostrich Team, TPIW and VideoJuice the event is free to attend, however with only 130 delegate places available, demand is expected to be very high for this exclusive, high-value business event.

Hoping to do well against winning businesses in other areas of the country, Jayne Everson, Managing Director of Angel Wholesale said: “We have remained flexible and creative during the recession, stayed focused on innovation, market development and delivering excellent customer service.”
The Awards have been designed by the FSB and Streamline to raise the profile of small businesses across the UK and to highlight the crucial role that they are playing in kick-starting and supporting the UK economy in the current economic crisis.
Darren Wilson, Managing Director, Streamline said: “With such a business showing innovation and ambition, it is a credit to the local economy. We created these awards to champion small businesses across the country and the standard was such that it has been incredibly difficult to identify the finalists. Of all the entries we received this local business really stood out, and we are looking forward to meeting Jayne at the national event in April.”
Neil Eames, Development Manager for the FSB Wessex Region, said: “As with everything that we do, these Awards are designed to promote the interests of small businesses and entrepreneurs all over the UK. We’d like to congratulate Jayne, and wish her well in the national final. Along with other area finalists, her business has demonstrated the fantastic wealth of small businesses that are so important to the area, and it is great to be able to recognise businesses for their success and dedication.”

Choosing a school for your daughter’s education is one of the most important decisions you will ever make. From her first steps in Nursery to receiving her A Level results, the right guidance, encouragement and individual attention are crucial to every girl’s succes.
Portsmouth High School is one of the leading independent, all-girls’ schools on the South Coast, offering seamless education for girls from Nursery to 18. We are committed to providing an education which is specifically tailored to the needs of girls, which rather than sheltering them, challenges them to confound expectations and stereotypes. Until recently, the journey across the water has limited parental choice of schools, particularly at junior level, to what is available on the island. Portsmouth High School has widened this choice of schools through offering a Hover Nanny service to give parents complete peace of mind and younger children a new confidence about crossing the water to school.
Visit our website www.portsmouthhigh.co.uk to find out the latest dates of our Open Doors events when you can visit Portsmouth High School. Alternatively, you are welcome to make an individual appointment at any time to meet the Headmistress and tour the school.
