The Haiti Appeal Concert will be an evening of live music and DJ’s at Cowes Yacht Haven Events Centre on Saturday evening, February 6th for a maximum of 1000 guests.
The Haiti Appeal Concert – Isle of Wight has been created by Lee Taylor in association with Spencer Rigging Ltd to raise vital funding for the Disaster Emergency Committee.
The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) was formed in 1963. They are an umbrella organisation for 13 humanitarian aid agencies. At times of overseas emergency, the DEC brings together a unique alliance of the UK’s aid, corporate, public and broadcasting sectors to rally the nation’s compassion, and ensure that funds raised go to DEC agencies best placed to deliver effective and timely relief to people most in need. The DEC’s remit is to unite agency efforts in times of disaster – such as flood, earthquake or famine – wherever it happens in the world. The way the DEC approach their work is to maximise funds raised and ensure they are spent in an effective and fully accountable way.
The concert will be headlined by Island bands:
The Chancers
The Chancers have enjoyed some fantastic and inspirational support slots including, The Pea’s, New Master Sounds, Scratch Perverts, Cuban Brothers & Roy (THE VIBE) Ayers. With some encouraging sessions recorded with Paul Butler under their belt, they are already enjoying transmission on foreign & local frequencies with a self penned and recorded live album and approaching serious sessions for a debut studio long player… Chosen as the UK’s most inspired unsigned band by Radio 1 listeners & Rob Da Bank, hands shaken by The Beastie Boys after performing at The Bestival, Persuading Soul 2 Soul to play the threatened Isle of Wight – Ryde Theatre, Dj-ing for Rizla as The Invisible Players, a Chancers invited to play onstage with soul singing sensation Jhelisa Anderson….These are just some early highlights to be blessed their way. Regular appearances at Isle of Wight Festival & Bestival have given The Chancers the opportunity to prove and refine their craft and graft amongst some of the best names in the business.
The Kurves
Lead singer Jamie Fineran, originally from the Isle of Wight, moved away aged only 16 to join the armed forces. During his time in the army he served during heated conflict in Ulster, Northern Ireland. It is through his time in the forces that Jamie penned a book of lyrics and songs he would eventually bring with him to The Kurves. Originally a duo, Jamie and Chris, The Kurves were formed in August 2007. In less than a year The Kurves have written enough material for three albums, received airplay on Local, and BBC national radio – becoming Isle of Wight gig favorites in the process. The Kurves have also played a host of festivals in 2008 – culminating with performances at the ‘Wight Air Festival’ alongside The Pigeon Detectives and The Operators – and BBC Radio 1′s ‘Bestival’ alongside such diverse acts as The Human League, Gary Newman and Pendulum. In 2009 the kurves started of in full motion and again played the Bestival alongside such acts as the kooks, Lily Allen and many others. Since then the kurves have had a break but 2010 will see the guys come back with some mighty songs and fill a host of Gigs throughout the Country. They all look forward to seeing you very soon.
The Concert will also have special guests and DJ’s to entertain the crowd.
Ticket sales have been kindly managed and sponsored by Red Funnel and can be purchased at www.redfunnel.co.uk/haiti at £10 each. All money raised will go directly to the DEC.
‘I feel that the tragedy in Haiti is a horrific reminder how we sometimes lose perspective of our lives but the offers of help and support that I have received have been overwhelming and I truly feel this concert will show that we are a small island with a big heart.’
