Businesses embark on voyage to sustainable world with sailor
Round the world yachtswoman, Dame Ellen MacArthur, revealed her latest voyage of discovery to dignitaries and business leaders at a Keynote Briefing last week organised by leading Chartered Accountants, Moore Stephens. The record breaking sailor regaled the audience with the story of her life journey, the Ellen MacArthur Trust and why she has put her sailing plans on hold for now to channel her substantial reserves of energy into communicating the importance of sustainability.
Over eighty business owners, movers and shakers from the south and Isle of Wight attended the firm’s ‘Fit for the Future’ Keynote Briefing at Southampton City Art Gallery where they heard from four speakers, including Dame Ellen. The inaugural event marked the launch of Moore Stephens’ pioneering initiative to help clients build a better business for the future for themselves, their customers, their employees and the community.
Guests were told the key to getting ‘Fit for the Future’ lies in people and not just profits by keynote speaker, Graham Massey, Managing Director of Re-Everything. “The desire for money and money alone has brought about a massive coronary in the business world, notably the financial sector” said Graham. “This recession is different for two reasons; firstly, the old business model is broken, and secondly, a new business model is emerging driven by legislation and the power of the people. This new model will create a business world that is more mindful, more considered, more sustainable and more fit for the future; business with a visible heart!”
