Playstation, the nursery based at the Isle of Wight College, which has been set for closure with a loss of 22 jobs has been saved by Tops Day Nurseries who will take over operation of the nursery from 1 September.
who operate 10 other nurseries in the South of England received confirmation from Lawyers on Friday 7 July that they have been given the all clear to maintain the nursery premises and continue offering the valuable child care service the community needs.
The College’s recent decision to consult on the potential closure of the nursery was regretful and the announcement caused disappointment within the community. The consultation period between unions and staff has been successful and they have all had to compromise in order to save what all value as an “excellent facility.”
The closure would have reflected the current economic crisis and increasing unemployment statistics. However, the news that the facilities can be maintained by Tops Day Nurseries has been described by Stephen Lamdin, Financial Director of the Isle of Wight College, as “a victory for the community and all involved.”
Tops Day Nurseries is Dorset’s most successful nursery chain. It was started by entrepreneur Cheryl Hadland almost 20 years ago and the chain continues to expand. Its mission statement is to offer ‘top quality sustainable childcare with flexible hours to suit your family’. Their bookings are per quarter hour as opposed to session set-ups that often force parents to pay for extra care that they may not necessarily require. Childcare is offered for babies from 3 months to children aged 5 years and Tops also provide care for older children aged 5-11 with out of school holiday clubs.
Cheryl Hadland, Managing Director of Hadland Care Group and Tops Day Nurseries says:
“When we first considered the option to take over the Isle of Wight nursery we saw it as a very positive opportunity. We looked closely at Playstation’s situation and understood why it was in a critical condition and felt very positive that we could turn it around. The facilities at the nursery are extremely good and we have heard endless praise from the parents about the staff and the nursery’s value to them. Everyone at Tops Day Nurseries is looking forward to being part of this enthusiasm and helping to make it a success for the future.”
