Sunday 7 June Living Larder in Apse Heath held their first ever open farm Sunday. With over 400 people joining them for farm tours lead by grower Will and his wife Aimee, guests could look around the fields and observe the traditional methods used to grow over 50 different fruit and vegetables. Their was a pop up restaurant hosted by top chef Robert Thompson, using the delicious produce grown only meters away.
The youngsters enjoyed taking part in a treasure hunt around the farm, planting their own green beans and taking part in a seed quiz. There was a demonstration hive of the bees kept on the Farm by Dave Cassel as well as a stall from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust. Dr Beans kept everyone suitable refreshed, serving Island Roasted Coffee.
Living Larder grow, pick and deliver veg boxes across the Island, as well as supplying a number of the islands finest restaurants. Growing on a small scale, their emphasis is on fresh produce with flavour.
