Pound Lane Calbourne 22-24th July 2011
This small world music festival specialises in performances from UK/EU based artists playing african traditional music, afro-beat, bhangra, taiko, latin, reggae, folk, blues, klezmer, world fusion, cajun and more.
The organisers are really please by the amount of interest in this year’s festival from both island and main-land ticket buyers and it looks like a sell-out this year.
They are also exited by the range of artists they have been able to attract to the main stage and have just signed a contract with the BBC GLOBAL NEWS Television Service to film the event for world wide distribution.
The very popular Didge Cafe has been expanded and will be open daily with a full line-up of both Island bands and unplugged sets from artists who have performed on the main-stage.
Just walking around the site you can hear didgeridoo, jaw harp and mbira players. Samba, taiko, hang, djembe, dhol, cajon, the gome and tongue drums. Overtone singing and human beat-boxing. Native American flutes, atenteben, gongs, singing bowls, ocarinas, bow saws and of course a wide selection of more familiar instruments.. even the odd guitar!
There is also lots of off-stage entertainment for all the family including a children’s area, circus skills, craft displays, samba bands and African dance workshops.
There are market stalls, locally produced food stands and alternative therapy areas. The sound healing tent has the biggest gong in the UK!
