Top London fashion buyer and TV fashion consultant Maria Guy opens her new store ‘Mia’ in Union Street, Ryde with a special preview reception for over 100 specially invited guests, followed by the official store opening. A fashion store that brings exclusive brands to the Island, recognising the importance many Islanders place on individuality.
For over 20 years Mari Guy has worked as a fashion buyer for some of the biggest names on the high street including John Lewis, and Debenhams. More recently she was Head of Womenswear, Buying and Design at House of Fraser. Over these years Maria has worked closely with the country’s top designers including Jasper Conran, Jeff Banks, Matthew Williamson and John Rocha.
Maria comments: ‘I grew up on the Island so it seemed to be the natural choice to open my new store ‘Mia’ here. The concept for ‘Mia ‘ is simple, it’s all about help and advice, making shopping personal and pleasurable again, the opposite of the big, impersonal department stores.’ Maria ads that ‘Maria just wants people to just ‘pop-in’, to discuss their needs and to ask her opinion on what they should be wearing so that she can help them to consider a variety of options.
Maria is well known to many as one of the top fashion consultants on the popular to show ‘10 Years Younger’ television series, where she advised on the key trends of the season and how they should be worn, encouraged women to try new and different styles, with the overall aim of making them feel more confident about themselves. It is this final aspect of fashion that Maria feels particularly passionate about and led to her creating her own store on the Island.
Working in London, Maria felt the time was right to return to the Island that she so loves. With its ever growing popularity and media profile she felt that the Island provided just the right market for her skills and experience. All of this has led to the opening of ‘Mia’, her new Boutique on Union Street, Ryde. Overall, Maria aims is to make shopping at ‘Mia’ a personal and pleasurable experience.
