Tops Day Nurseries’ celebrated with balloons and cake.

Children and staff of Tops Day Nurseries’ celebrated with balloons and cake at the Play Station Nursery on 1 Sept – which was the first day of new management since the Dorset based Nursery chain announced they could save the Isle of Wight Nursery from closure last month. The new ownership began with a cutting of the ribbon outside the nursery gates by a young nursery attender, Logan, and then children continued to celebrate with a cutting (and eating!) of the ‘Tops’ cake.
Parents say that the purpose built facility has the best resources, garden and staff around and are thrilled that their children can continue to attend. Seven of the play station staff who have chosen to transfer to tops are also grateful to have kept their jobs. Unison along with the college and staff and parents have fought hard to find a solution that will keep the facility going and so there were celebrations all round at the success!
Cheryl Hadland who started Tops Day Nurseries twenty years ago now has a total of 11 successful Nurseries across Hampshire, Dorset and Somerset and has family connections in Carisbrooke on the Isle of Wight. She began the business when she was seeking childcare for her own children and realised people needed more flexibility from nurseries as opposed to the half and full days session rates where parents often pay for more care than they need. Tops take bookings that are per quarter of an hour and suit the parent’s specific requirements – even at short notice!

Cheryl feels very positive about saving the Play station nursery for the local community;

“When we first considered the option to take over the Isle of Wight nursery we saw it as a very positive opportunity. We looked closely at Playstation’s situation and understood why it was in a critical condition and felt very positive that we could turn it around. The facilities at the nursery are extremely good and we have heard endless praise from the parents about the staff and the nursery’s value to them. Everyone at Tops Day Nurseries is looking forward to being part of this enthusiasm and helping to make it a success for the future.”

Tops Day Nursery at the Isle of Wight College is for everyone. Its open 7.30am – 6.30pm all year round and accepts all recognised childcare vouchers.
